Mystery Spot Antiques in Phoenicia NY now open weekends + Mondays. It’s our 13th season! How can that be?

June 5th, 2014

We’re starting to bring in TONS of vintage items gathered from our secret sources over the next few weeks (and will continue all season-long). Killer vinyl from our crate-digging excavations, estate-fresh vintage clothing for men, women and – yes! – children, unusual old books, vintage linens and afghans, knitting and crocheting patterns, mid-century lighting and objets d’art, Rusticalia, vintage kitchenware, vintage barware, doo-dads and knick-knacks and tchatchkes of a vintage vintage. And yes, some actual antiques, Victorian, Edwardian, Arts and Crafts, primitive country.

Vintage denim and men’s work clothes (Carhartt, Carter’s, Levi’s), vintage Chanel suits and scarves and a Louis Vuitton Pappillon bag (ask for photos), oddities, unusual weird creepy thrift store paintings, vintage costume jewelry, old photographs, vintage Polaroid cameras, vintage typewriters. Vintage T-shirts, leather jackets, ladies’ hats, capes, lingerie, maxi-dresses, day dresses. All vintage, of course.

Twenties, Thirties, Forties, Fifties, Sixties. Seven rooms packed to the rafters with our hand-picked favorite items, lovingly displayed and always fun to dig through.

As usual, we’re behind on everything! At some point we’ll update this page with the wonderful press we’ve received these past few years, and maybe even some of the love notes regularly posted by strangers to our front door. Meantime, a great way to stay in the loop is to follow us on Facebook or Instagram or sign up for our mailing list.

And when we’re closed, the YARD SALE IN A BOX awaits you, where dollar treasures beckon to be discovered. That and a few crates of Dollar Records…24/7, the porch is open all night.

So get out of the city and/or Brooklyn, hop into one of those Zip Cars or take the Trailways Bus right to our front door on Main Street in Phoenicia, NY in the beautiful Catskills. Phoenicia offers tons of things to do (hiking, fishing, tubing, camping, chilling) and places to eat, shop and stay (see our links on the right). The perfect weekend getaway vintage roadtrip!

You’ll recognize us by the fourteen foot statue of Davy Crockett out front.

Since we know you’re thinking this: YES, WE BUY! WE ALSO TRADE/BARTER/SWAP. Doing a house cleanout, attic or basement or barn spring cleaning? We’re very interested to know what you have that you’re looking to sell/trade/move on/etc. Trunks of old clothing? Boxes and boxes of records? (Rock, jazz, blues, country, folk, unusual preferred – no classical or easy listening or show tunes, please…..). When in doubt, just drop us an email or give a call: info@mysteryspotantiques.com or (845) 688-7868.

A Robin’s Tale (aka Miracle on Main Street)

May 20th, 2014

One day a bird’s nest appeared atop the jackalope heads outside

The Mystery Spot in Phoenicia, NY.

Look! Above the jackalopes! It's a bird! It's a plane! Wait...it's a bird!

We took a peek inside and found a beautiful blue egg.

Blue blue blue.

Meantime, the robin had inadvertently flown into the shop.

It flew from room to room – first the record room, then the main room, and finally the room where all our bird paintings hang.

We tried and tried to encourage it to fly back out the front door, without success. It would climb onto my finger, but fly away once I moved towards the door.

Fly, robin, fly.

Finally, it flew back outside.

The end? Not quite….

Laura C., who works at the shop, said she saw something in the bird room,

atop a mid-century bookcase.

She thought it could be…an egg?

Was that possible?

It was.

The robin had laid a perfect blue egg on the bookcase in the bird room.

Surprise!

We carefully picked it up with a paper towel and placed it in her nest,

to join the other one already there.
